Internet safety
At St Bartholomew’s C of E Academy, we are committed to ensuring that all pupils, parents, and staff are able to use modern technology safely, responsibly, and positively.
The aim of our e‑safety provision is to create a secure digital environment where children can learn, explore, and communicate while understanding how to stay safe online. We recognise that technology plays a vital role in education and everyday life, and we actively encourage its use as a powerful learning tool.
Our Approach to E‑Safety
We aim to:
- Provide a safe and protected online environment for all pupils
- Educate children to become responsible, respectful digital citizens
- Promote positive behaviour and safe interaction when using online and tablet technologies
- Support parents and carers in understanding online safety issues
Teaching and Learning
E‑safety is taught through:
Computing lessons using the Teach Computing Curriculum
- Discrete, stand‑alone lessons
- Embedded discussions across the wider curriculum
Our teaching is closely aligned with the Education for a Connected World Framework, which sets out the digital knowledge and skills children and young people need to develop as they grow. This includes learning about:
- Online relationships and communication
- Privacy and security
- Managing online information
- Digital wellbeing
- Respectful and responsible online behaviour
Lessons are delivered in an age‑appropriate and progressive way, ensuring that children build understanding as they move through the school.
Working in Partnership with Parents
We believe that online safety is most effective when schools and families work together. We:
- Share guidance and advice with parents
- Provide updates and resources when new online safety concerns arise
- Encourage parents to reinforce safe online behaviours at home
- Use PCSOs from West Midlands police to reinforce messages
A Safe Digital Culture
Our commitment to e‑safety supports our wider safeguarding responsibilities and reflects our school values. By educating pupils about safe technology use, we help them develop the skills and confidence to navigate the online world responsibly, both now and in the future.
If you have any concerns or would like further information about how we support e‑safety at St Bart’s, please contact the school office, speak to your child’s class teacher or speak to a Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL).
