A warm welcome to St Bartholomew's C of E Academy.
The aim of the Governing Body at St Bartholomew's is to work with all the staff in helping the children to achieve their full potential in a happy, caring and Christian environment. All the Governors are volunteers from a wide cross section of the community.
The Governors work closely with the Head to ensure that the school is constantly seen to bear witness to the faith in every aspect of its work and to provide the best possible education for pupils.
We do this in these main ways:
- Setting the schools's values, vision and strategic aims
- Agreeing plans and policies, including admission arrangements
- Monitoring the performance and progress of our children
- Working with the staff to help them teach and care for our children
- Deciding on how the resources of the school are best used
- Acting as a critical friend to the Head to support and challenge them in leading the school
- Ensuring that the school is accountable to the children and parents it serves, to the local community and the Diocese
To deliver this effectively the Governors are representatives of all the key groups involved in our school – the Parents, the Staff, the Community and the Church. Some are appointed and some are elected. All serve for a term of four years. Further information is contained in our constitution document.
We meet together at least twice a term as a whole Local Governing Body, once with a focus on Peformance and Standards, and also with a Finance and Premises focus. Working parties also meet as appropriate. In addition each Governor has an area on the Academy Improvement Plan that they are responsible for monitoring.
Governors will regularly visit school to help them to monitor progress against targets set. Two governors oversee performance management, and there is a designated governor for SEN provision, Safeguarding and Health and Safety.
